United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a St. Francis, South Dakota, woman charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon was sentenced on February 13, 2012, by United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Valencia Four Horns, age 34, was sentenced to 13 months in custody, 2 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.
Four Horns was indicted by a federal grand jury on August 22, 2011, and pled guilty to the charge on November 22, 2011.
The conviction stems from an incident that took place on May 5, 2011, inside a residence in Upper Swift Bear Housing in Mellette County. Four Horns had interaction with the victim, got upset, broke a bottle, and cut the victim's face and head with the broken bottle. The investigation was conducted by Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tim Maher.
Four Horns must report to the custody of the United States Marshal on February 16, 2012.
